PCB-manufacturers will have to pay

Oslo harbour is heavily contaminated with PCBs. The multinational chemical companies Bayer, and Solutia (spin off from Monsanto) can be held responsible. This is the conclusion in a new report published by Friends of the Earth Norway (FoEN). FoEN's legal advisors believe that the producers will have to pay for their misdemanours. The study has been supported by Oslo City, and Oslo Port Authorities.

The report focuses on Oslo harbour, but similar dilemmas apply to several other harbours in Norway and world wide. "Chemical fingerprints" make it possible to trace PCB on the seabed back to the manufacturer.
